An employee lifts packaged products from the end of the production line and stacks them onto an empty pallet. This is physically demanding work, and it\u2019s no surprise that employee turnover is usually high in those environments.<\/p>\n<p>However, as automation continues to rise and logistics companies face ongoing labor shortages, robotic palletizing is becoming more prominent. It\u2019s especially valuable for companies with high throughput and a need to get products out the door fast.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #2d8fa1;\">The definition of depalletizing<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Depalletizing is exactly the opposite of palletizing; it\u2019s the process of unloading packaged goods from a pallet. This usually happens when a freight truck arrives full of pallets that need to be emptied.<\/p>\n<p>From there, the products can be placed onto a conveyor belt at the start of the production or manufacturing line or onto another pallet (a process known as repalletizing).<\/p>\n<p>As you can imagine, this task can be very physically demanding on the employees, constantly lifting and placing products onto conveyor belts for hours on end each day.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #2d8fa1;\">The similarities between palletizing and depalletizing<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Yes, there are some similarities between palletizing and depalletizing, and it\u2019s worth highlighting these before jumping into the differences:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Both applications can be done with the same robot. But for the most part, for a single SKU palletizing solution, it\u2019s all predetermined.<\/p>\n<p>Mixed case palletizing usually does not use vision to place products on a pallet but relies on <a href=\"https:\/\/smart-robotics.io\/technology-trinity-motion\/\">intelligent software<\/a> to figure out the best stacking pattern. Vision can be applied for real-time validation or adjustments, but it\u2019s not an absolute requirement.<\/p>\n<p>However, depalletizing is a bit more complicated because of\u2026<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #2d8fa1;\">Items moving during transit<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>During transit from one facility to another, products can shift and move\u2014especially if they weren\u2019t secured well enough with shrink wrap.
